About

At Sleep Coach MD, we care about your sleep. We take the time to understand your background and the different factors that influence how you are navigating your sleep journey, and develop a customized plan to support you as you take a more active role in improving your sleep health.

As a board-certified sleep medicine physician, I take a holistic approach to improve sleep and overall well-being. I integrate principles from lifestyle medicine to support long-term sustainable change, looking beyond just the symptoms to understand how your lifestyle, environment, and health habits may be affecting your rest.

Whether you are dealing with insomnia, sleep apnea, fatigue, or shift work challenges, my goal is to help you rest better, feel better, and live better naturally and effectively without over-relying on medication. Together, we will build sustainable solutions that support not just better sleep, but a healthier, more energized life.

In a nutshell

Sleep Crises

1 in 3 U.S. adults (and even more adolescents) do not get enough sleep. This can affect their health and well-being. Sleep disorders like sleep apnea also negatively affect health and safety. Majority of people with sleep apnea are undiagnosed and consequently do not get the treatment they need.

Sleep Disorders

These include not getting enough sleep (sleep deprivation), poor sleep habits, and conditions like sleep apnea, insomnia, restless leg syndrome, excessive sleepiness (hypersomnia), abnormal behaviors during sleep (parasomnias including talking, walking, dream enactment), amongst others.

Health Consequences

People who are sleep-deprived are likely to have health problems like obesity,
heart disease, stroke, dementia & cancer. They are also more likely to have problems at
work/school & be involved in vehicle crashes. Lastly, sleep disorders can lead to difficulties with mood regulation, learning, & memory.

Dr. Amara Emenike

Earlier in my career, I experienced firsthand the debilitating effects of shift work disorder while working night shifts at a hospital. That personal struggle opened my eyes to how profoundly sleep affects every aspect of our physical, mental, and emotional well-being. It sparked a deep passion for sleep medicine and a commitment to understanding the science behind healthy rest. Determined to make a change, I restructured my lifestyle, and subsequently pursued a Sleep Medicine fellowship at the University of Michigan (Go Blue!), where my curiosity grew into a lifelong calling.

Following my training, I served as the Medical Director of the Florida Panhandle’s largest Sleep Disorders Center and Tallahassee’s only Sleep Medicine program. I helped expand access to critical sleep services in the region. In 2021, I returned to Texas, where I have continued the mission of working with individuals and communities across North and East Texas to improve their sleep health and overall quality of life.

Beyond my medical work, I actively serve on several nonprofit boards and stay
energized as a dance fitness instructor. I am a proud sister, wife, and mom to two
amazing boys. I remain deeply engaged with both the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the American College of Lifestyle Medicine. I also have a love for travel especially to international and coastal destinations and always make time for a good weekend movie marathon.
