Sleep Apnea Therapy

The most effective treatment for sleep apnea (OSA) is Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) therapy. PAP therapy involves wearing a mask over the nose and/or mouth while sleeping for the delivery of a continuous stream of pressurized air to keep the upper airway open and prevent intermittent airway collapse.

While CPAP is the gold standard treatment, other options may be considered, based on individual preferences, particularly for those who cannot tolerate PAP, or have specific conditions precluding its use.

Other Therapy

Myofunctional therapy involves strengthening the pharyngeal and peri-pharyngeal muscles to improve muscle tone, endurance, and coordinate movements. These exercises can help reposition the tongue, improve nasal breathing, and strengthen the muscles that support the soft palate.

Myofunctional therapy can reduce snoring, and daytime sleepiness; improve oxygen saturation and sleep quality. It can be used as an adjunct to other sleep apnea treatments, such as PAP or the oral appliance, or as a stand-alone treatment in cases of mild OSA.
